This exhibition illuminates the similarities and dissimilarities between the Danish painters L. A. Ring (1854-1933) and H.A. Brendekilde (1857-1942), whose oeuvres and careers overlapped. Although both were drawn towards a plain form of realism, Ring always toyed more with the possibilities offered by symbolism, with Brendekilde veering towards a sentimental depiction of ordinary life.
