Paris in the days of Post-Impressionism

Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, to 27 September 2020

Some 500 paintings and graphic works from a magnificent private collection are used to illustrate the impact of Post-Impressionism, following the inauguration of the 1884 Salon des Indépendants in Paris. Work is included by, naturally, Seurat and Signac, as well as, to name but a few,

Marquet, Gauguin, Denis and Anquetin. In addition to the 500 works from a private collection, the descendants of Paul Signac have loaned two works to the exhibition, including the attractive Rysselberghe portrait of Signac as a yachtsman (pictured).
